A pressure balanced shower faucet senses fluctuations in hot and cold water pressure caused by actions such as flushing toilets or starting a dishwasher. A pressure balancing valve compensates for these fluctuations, keeping the water temperature constant and comfortable, and preventing scalding. Pressure balanced shower faucets have been a requirement in Massachusetts since 1988.

This is generally one of two problems. A loose washer in one of your faucets may be causing a vibration when the faucet is opened, or water piping may not be secured properly to the wall.

Some faucets are simply made better than others with higher quality materials such as solid brass to achieve superior levels of appearance, durability and performance. Although you will pay more for a quality faucet, you will receive a higher value for your money as a result of a longer lasting and reliable product.

If you have a public water supply, go to your water meter, look for the main shut off valve and turn it clockwise until the water stops.

Look in the basement for the water line feeding your outside faucet. Follow that pipe back from the outside until you see a shut off valve, and turn it clockwise until it will not turn any further. Open the outside faucet and make sure there is not a hose connected to it.

Most water heaters have 2 copper pipes coming out of the top of the heater. Feel both pipes to locate the cold water intake, follow it back up from the heater, and locate the shut off valve. Turn this valve clockwise until you are unable to turn it any further, then go to your kitchen faucet and open the hot water to relieve the pressure.
